Magnolias (2017) is a series of oil paintings that explores acceptance and evokes the duality of the feminine. The feminine exists and is powerful, both through what is embraced and through what is rejected. Across various symbolic traditions, the magnolia has been associated with strength, dignity, perseverance, and delicacy. The flower provides a framework through which I explore the relationship between vulnerability and strength, growth and transformation, visibility and introspection. Through layers of color, organic brushwork, and compositions in which the magnolia becomes the central protagonist, the series draws attention to dimensions of feminine experience that often remain invisible or undervalued, including by women themselves. Traditionally, the role of women has been shaped by expectations centered on values such as innocence and obedience. These expectations often exclude inseparable aspects of the feminine experience, including sensuality, intuition, and power. A woman who does not conform to these ideals may be questioned. But what happens when that questioning comes from within? What happens when a woman herself rejects aspects of her own feminine identity? And what becomes possible when she is called to reconcile with them?
